Dog Recall Training FAQs
-
A reliable recall is built by teaching your dog that responding to their recall cue is highly rewarding and gradually practising around increasing distractions. Rapid Recall uses positive, reward-based games to help dogs build a stronger response to being called.
-
Dogs often find recalling much harder outside because they’re surrounded by exciting distractions such as other dogs, people, wildlife and interesting smells. Recall training should gradually progress from easier environments to more challenging situations rather than expecting the same response everywhere immediately.
-
Building a reliable recall takes ongoing practice, and every dog progresses differently. Rapid Recall runs for three weekly sessions, giving you the skills and training games to continue strengthening your dog’s recall after the course finishes.
-
Dogs of different ages and training backgrounds can improve their recall with appropriate practice. How quickly your dog progresses will depend on factors such as their previous training, motivation and ability to respond around distractions.
-
Paws & Reward runs Rapid Recall classes in Blackwood, Flagstaff Hill and Balhannah, supporting dog owners across Adelaide’s southern suburbs, foothills and Adelaide Hills.
-
Rapid Recall costs $165 including GST for three weekly training sessions. You’ll also receive access to the Rapid Recall Student Hub, including an e-bookle and practical training resources.
-
Yes. Dogs attending Rapid Recall need a 5-metre recall lead so recall can be practised safely while your dog is still learning. If you don’t already have one, a recall lead can be added when you book.
